"Overview and Field Practice Using the Trekker Breeze to Create Routes and

Establish a Position in Space"

This 6-hour pre conference workshop teaches you the details of the Trekker Breeze and how to create routes from the address entry feature. The day is divided into a morning session to learn about the parameters of GPS and for orientation to the device, a working lunch to practice with the settings menu, and an afternoon session of route creations on the street and in open areas.

Be prepared! You will walk aprroximately 3-4 miles during the day.

Learning objectives are:

1.    To learn the basics of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) travel dynamics and how the Trekker Breeze interacts with the environment to provide auditory positional information;

2.    To learn how to access information for self-directed travel;

3.    To learn basic operations of the Trekker Breeze;

4.    To learn how to address the 50 foot resolution;

5.    To learn how to create routes from POIs, landmarks, and address entry;

6.    To learn mapping on the street and in open areas.

Already own a Trekker Breeze GPS? Bring it with you to use! If not, each participant will be supplied with a Trekker Breeze GPS for use during the session only. Upgrades to the 2.0 system will be provided at the workshop if you bring your own Trekker Breeze.

At the end of the workshop, there will be a drawing for a Trekker Breeze GPS. Lunch is also provided with thanks from HumanWare!

6-hours of iPad, IPhone & iPod Touch

Hands on Training"

This all day workshop will provide 20 attendees with hands-on training on the iOS devices: iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. Attendees will learn about the similarities and differences between the iOS devices and how to select the most appropriate device for the user based on the accessibility options built into the iOS devices. Training on how to use VoiceOver and refreshable braille displays with the devices will be covered in depth, as with the use of appropriate apps to enhance independence and learning.

Attendees must bring their own devices and headphones/ear buds.

Equipment will NOT be provided to attendees.

Attendees will be sent an e-mail prior to the workshop with additional instructions, as with a list a of free or low cost apps they should download prior to attending.
