Visual Impairment and Orientation and Mobility Professionals Scholarship Program (VIOMPSP)
VIOMPSP provides scholarships to students pursuing a degree or certificate in visual impairment or orientation and mobility. In return, recipients commit to a minimum 3-year service obligation at a VA health care facility.
Eligible Specialty Occupations:
- Certified Visual Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT)
- Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT)
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
- Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist (CATIS)
Eligibility Requirements:
- Enrollment:
- Full-time students in an accredited program leading to ACVREP certification.
- VA employees may apply as part-time students in an accredited program leading to ACVREP certification.
- Citizenship & Age:
- U.S. Citizen (by birth or naturalization).
- 18 years or older.
- Must pass VA background checks and security clearance.
- Cannot have an existing obligation to another program or federal agency.
Program Coverage:
- Full-Time Students: Up to $15,000 per academic year (maximum $45,000 over 4 years).
- VA Employees (Part-Time): Minimum 1 year, up to 6 years of support.
