The Anchorage School District’s Blind Visually Impaired Department is looking for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to join our dynamic team of TVI’s, O&M’s, Braille Transcribers and support staff. Dual certification (TVI and O&M) is preferred, but TVI certification only will be considered as well. TVI’s/O&M’s travel to assigned schools throughout the district to provide direct or consultative services to a diverse group of students with visual impairments ages 3 to 22. TVI responsibilities may include: collaborating with classroom teachers to ensure modifications and accommodations are in place for students, modifying classroom curriculum to appropriate learning media, conducting vision assessments, developing IEPS, teaching Braille or Assistive Technology and communicating with school teams and families. Additionally, COMS responsibilities include conducting O&M screenings, evaluations and providing O&M services in school, home and community settings. The BVI department provides mentoring/support for new staff members when needed. We hope that you will take a leap, look into all that Alaska has to offer and come join our team.
The successful candidate will receive an additional 6% increase on their annual salary, signing bonus of $5,000 for at least two years of service or relocation assistance of up to $10,000 for up to four years of service.
