Physical Activity and Recreation Interest Group

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the AER Physical Activity and Recreation Interest Group is to 1) support and engage professionals and pre-service professionals working with learners with blindness/low vision, and 2) support individuals with blindness/low vision and their families in accessing physical activity and recreation opportunities. This Interest Group focuses on sharing programs, instructional strategies, accommodations, and tools that support access to physical activity and recreation across the lifespan. Through collaboration and professional learning, our Interest Group aims to improve instructional practice and access to physical activity and recreation and increase the number of professionals working in the field, in accordance with AER bylaws.

 

Statement of Goals and Objectives

The goals for the Physical Activity and Recreation Interest Group are to:

  • Build and sustain a professional community for shared learning and practice
  • Share practical and field‑based resources related to physical activity and recreation across the lifespan, including but not limited to, newsletters, research articles, books, and videos
  • Promote ongoing professional learning for professionals working with learners with blindness/low vision, as well as individuals with blindness/low vision and their families
  • Maintain an active presence at state and regional AER conferences and the biannual AER International Conference
  • Host regular webinars
