Computer Technology Teacher – K-12

Job Description 

The Computer Technology Teacher is primarily responsible to the Principal of the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS) for providing appropriate classroom learning experiences for students in grade K-12 who are blind or visually impaired.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student.
  • Responsible for supervising students in a variety of school settings; monitoring and evaluating student outcomes; and communicating/interacting with students, parents/families, staff, and the community.
  • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials – including materials in accessible formats such as braille, large print, and tactile graphics—to meet the needs of all students.
  • Additionally, is responsible for maintaining appropriate records and following required procedures and practices, as well as monitoring the appropriate use and care of specialized equipment, assistive technology, materials, and facilities.

This is an 11-month position

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft office, specifically Word, /excel, Powerpoint; Google apps; Apple Products and apps.
  • Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, assistive technology and accessible instructional materials.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills, including the use of multiple data points.
  • Ability to prepare course objective and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the state and the school.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology, including assistive technology, into the curriculum.

Education, Training, and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in education with appropriate subject areas

Certification and License Requirements

Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator’s license in the appropriate subject area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, including students with additional disabilities.
  • Familiarity with braille literacy instruction (UEB).
  • Licensed Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments.
  • Experience with Assistive technology, specifically screen readers, screen magnification, and screen adaptations.

Salary

Based on Experience and Education. 18% Supplement
